Overview

The MT2 Tailstock Drilling Kit gives you everything you need to drill on your mini lathe tailstock in one matched set: a 1-13mm keyed drill chuck, an MT2-JT6 tang-type arbor, a live center, and center drills. This is the MT2 tailstock drilling kit designed specifically for mini lathes — no separate arbor purchase, no compatibility guessing, no missing center drills. Insert the tang arbor into your MT2 tailstock quill, press-fit the JT6 chuck onto the arbor, and you are ready to center-drill and drill through workpiece ends without removing the part from the chuck.

Key Features

  • Complete 4-component kit: MT2 live center, 1-13mm keyed drill chuck (JT6), MT2-JT6 tang-type arbor, and center drill set — every part needed for tailstock drilling in one box
  • Tang-type arbor for lathe tailstocks: the MT2-JT6 arbor uses a flat tang end, not a drawbar thread — it seats by taper friction and ejects cleanly with a drift through your tailstock's slot; correct design for lathe tailstock use
  • 1-13mm chuck capacity: accommodates drill bits from 1/32" up to 1/2" — the full range used in mini lathe drilling operations on aluminum, mild steel, brass, and cast iron
  • MT2 live center included: bearing-supported revolving tip for turning long stock between centers; 60° included angle seats standard center-drilled holes
  • Pre-matched components: chuck, arbor, and live center are selected to work together on MT2 tailstocks — confirmed fit for Sieg, Harbor Freight, Grizzly, and similar mini lathes
  • Center drills included: unlike chuck-and-arbor-only competitor listings, this kit includes center drills so you can begin drilling operations without a separate purchase

What's in the Box

  • 1x MT2 Live Center (bearing-equipped revolving center, 60° point, MT2 tang-type shank)
  • 1x 1-13mm Keyed Drill Chuck (JT6 taper bore)
  • 1x Chuck Key (for tightening drill chuck)
  • 1x MT2-JT6 Drill Chuck Arbor (tang type — for lathe tailstock and drill press, NOT for mill spindle drawbar)
  • 1x Center Drill Set (for starting holes and creating live center seats in workpiece ends)

Compatibility

This kit fits mini lathe tailstocks and bench lathe tailstocks with an MT2 Morse Taper bore. The arbor uses a flat tang end — correct for tailstock and drill press use. It does NOT use a drawbar thread and is NOT designed for milling machine spindles.

Confirmed compatible MT2 tailstock machines:

  • Sieg C2 / SC2 / C3 — MT2 tailstock taper, the most common Chinese OEM mini lathe platform
  • Harbor Freight 7x10 (#93212) and 7x12 (#44142) — MT2 tailstock; best-known US entry-level mini lathes
  • Central Machinery 7x10 / 7x12 — MT2 tailstock (Harbor Freight house brand)
  • Grizzly G8688 (7x12), G0602, and G0765 (7x14) — MT2 tailstock; G0765 owners note arbor length compatibility confirmed
  • LittleMachineShop HiTorque 7x16 — MT2 tailstock
  • Autobox 7x14 / 8x16 — MT2 tailstock; our own machine line
  • Micro-Mark 7x16 — MT2 tailstock
  • South Bend 9" — MT2 tailstock
  • Atlas / Craftsman 12x36 — MT2 tailstock
  • Logan 200 / 400 — MT2 tailstock
  • Jet BD-X Series — MT2 tailstock

Not compatible with: MT3 or MT4 tailstocks (Grizzly G4000/G4002, Precision Matthews PM-1022V, or similar larger bench lathes). Not designed for milling machine spindles — those require a drawbar-type arbor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between a tang-type arbor and a drawbar-type arbor, and why does it matter?
A: A tang-type arbor has a flat, rectangular end (the "tang") that sits in a matching slot in your tailstock quill. It is held by taper friction during use and ejects by inserting a drift through a cross-slot in the tailstock barrel — no threading required. A drawbar-type arbor has a threaded end and requires a long bolt (the drawbar) threaded through the spindle from the back — this design is used on milling machine spindles, which have a through-hole for the drawbar. Lathe tailstocks do NOT have a drawbar through-hole. This kit uses a tang-type arbor, which is correct for lathe tailstocks and drill presses.

Q: What size holes can I drill with this kit on a mini lathe?
A: The 1-13mm drill chuck accepts bits from approximately 1/32" to 1/2" diameter. For most mini lathe drilling work — pilot holes, bolt clearance holes, cross-drilled features on turned parts — this range covers the full practical spectrum. For holes larger than 1/2", you would use boring bar operations on the lathe carriage rather than tailstock drilling.
